The Baumer Group is one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, sensor technology for various industries. The company was founded in 1952. In the beginning it was the pioneering developments of engineer Herbert Baumer, who founded Baumer Electric. In 1964, Mr. Helmut Witz took over the reins of the company. As a visionary entrepreneur, he recognised the promise of sensor technology from the very beginning, which enabled the company to quickly expand into a worldwide market. Even today, it is his strategy that explains Baumer's well-known values and success. Today, Baumer is a company whose corporate philosophy is based on innovation and technological progress, sustainability and reliability.
In 2007, the management of the company was handed over to the next generation of the Witz family. the company's strategy was marked by rapid development and growth, internationalisation and homogeneous standards all over the world. In addition, the original Baumer principles of quality, precision and innovative spirit have remained central.
Today, Baumer is represented by branches and production departments all over the world. The company employs more than 2,500 people worldwide, in 36 branches and 18 countries. Baumer's customers are mainly small, highly specialised factories and mechanical engineering companies, but also large industrial companies and groups of companies operating globally. The company's main driving force is innovation: better, more precise, more reliable. Baumer offers solutions that meet the highest technological standards and are applicable even in particularly hazardous environments.
The company's goal is always to be one step ahead in order to meet market needs faster, which is why Baumer is continuously expanding its product range. Baumer's unusually broad product range consists of five main areas: motion control, sensorics, process visualisation, tooling and incandescent systems.
Baumer manufactures:
1. presence detection (inductive, photoelectric, supersonic, capacitive, magnetic sensors, precision mechanical switches)Baumer PR Bild Visiline
2. distance measuring ( linear encoders without bearings, cable voltage encoders)
3. Rotary encoders, encoders (absolute, incremental encoders, tilt encoders, etc.)
4. Recognition, image processing (technical cameras, vision sensors, system components, software and starter packages)
5. Process instrumentation (sensors for measuring level, temperature, pressure, conductivity, voltage, etc.)
6. Accessories
Baumer offers its customers outstanding quality and state-of-the-art technology. The fields of application of Baumer products are quite broad: robotics, graphics equipment, packaging machines, textile machinery, machine tools, medical and laboratory technology, semiconductor industry, construction, food industry, lift equipment, steel industry, chemical industry, renewable energy sources, wind turbines, transport and logistics, cranes and heavy lifting equipment, trucks and many others.
Baumer products
Incremental encoders
Baumer incremental encoders, available in the EIL580 and EIL580P series, detect the angle of rotation optically and are widely used as speed detection encoders in situations where it is not necessary to retain the absolute position of the controlled elements after power is turned off. Baumer incremental encoders have a cast aluminum housing and two types of shaft: protruding solid or hollow. Baumer incremental encoders have a protection rating up to IP67.
Absolute encoders
Baumer absolute encoders are known for their increased wear resistance, vibration resistance and resistance to low and high temperatures, allowing them to be used in the harshest production environments, such as mining, steel, metallurgy and explosive environments. Baumer single and multi-turn encoders are available as optical or magnetic, hollow or solid shaft type, with various shaft diameters and protection up to IP67. Connection and configuration is made via SSI, Profibus-DP and CANopen interfaces. Baumer absolute encoders have a long service life and are protected against electromagnetic interference.
Accessories to encoders
Baumer offers a wide range of accessories for the encoders produced: various types of mountings, fixing springs and adapters, additional external bearing flanges, sockets, protective aluminum housings, mounting spacers and adapters, couplings and springs, plugs and pins as well as alignment supports and measuring wheels.
Machine Vision Cameras
The modern Baumer CX, EX and LX series industrial cameras are ideally suited for various machine vision applications. With exposure times as short as 1 μs and resolutions up to 48 megapixels, the cameras are used successfully even in the highest-speed processes and in various light conditions. With models rated up to IP67 and operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to 70°C, you can capture images even in the most extreme conditions. Dual GigE, 10 GigE or Camera Link interfaces enable easy integration with existing equipment.
Capacitive sensors
Baumer capacitive sensors (contact or non-contact) for presence, distance and level detection of liquid and bulk solids are widely used in various industries, including the chemical and food industries. Capacitive sensors translate indicators such as moisture, pressure, applied force, and substance level into electrical capacitance readings. Various sensor models are used to monitor conductive and non-conductive materials over a minimum sensing distance.
Inductive sensors with analog output
Inductive sensors in rectangular or cylindrical housings are used for non-contact position monitoring of objects made of metal. Baumer's AlphaProx technology provides instant response with high resolution and perfect repeat accuracy. Baumer inductive sensors are used in a variety of industries, including those that require sensors to be resistant to low temperatures and moisture ingress. Some sensor models are ATEX certified.
Inductive sensors
Baumer inductive sensors are used for non-contact monitoring of objects made of metal. Baumer is a recognized world leader and the first manufacturer of high quality inductive sensors in the world, therefore the range includes both series and exclusively designed models. Compact sensors, heavy-duty sensors, sensors for the food industry with stainless steel housing, and many other types of inductive sensors for all industries are in Baumer's catalog.
Magnetic Sensors
Baumer's range of magnetic sensors includes Hall sensors, magnetic rulers, non-contact potentiometers and magnetic encoders in rectangular or cylindrical housings, connected via cable or connector. The sensors are rated up to IP67 and the sensing surfaces up to IP68.
Ultrasonic sensors with analog output
Baumer ultrasonic sensors with analog output available in the UNDK, URDK, UNAM, UNCK, UZAM, UR18, UEDK,UNAR, U500, URCK, USDK, URAR, URAM series have the highest measurement accuracy, adjustable upper measurement limit, memory for preset measurement limits. Sensors are produced in cylindrical or rectangular plastic, polyester or metal casing, most models are working in the temperature range from -10C to +60C.
Ultrasonic sensors
Baumer offers compact and lightweight, yet extremely reliable ultrasonic sensors with a large operating range. The models available include distance, proximity, reflector and cross-beam sensors. Some sensors are equipped with additional functionality (learning, potentiometer).

Photoelectric sensors
Baumer ultra-miniature photoelectric sensors in metal, plastic or brass housing have a sensing range of 0 to 7.2 meters and protection class up to IP67. The operating principle is reflective or reflective with reflector. Some sensors also have sensitivity adjustment, background suppression and a built-in Teach-in function. Sensors operate in DARK-ON and LIGHT-ON modes.
Limit Switches
Baumer offers cylindrical or rectangular mechanical limit switches of the My COM series with a normally open output and a sensing range of 0.6 to 1.5 mm. The line of limit switches includes a large selection of sizes.
Counters
Baumer mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic counters are widely used in various production processes to monitor motion and positioning, speed and speed, counting quantities and meters and other operations, acting as independent controls or as an intermediate control stage to pass information to the main control system.
Tachogenerators
Baumer tachogenerators with LongLife technology are used for monitoring and control and are characterized by improved durability and long life by measuring speed and direction of rotation while the equipment is in operation. Baumer offers tachogenerator models with solid or hollow shaft. Additionally, tachogenerators can be equipped with encoders or speed limiters. Baumer tachogenerators can be operated in the temperature range from -50°C to +130°C.
